I confess I bought this book solely because the cover looked cool. Quoth the raven “nevermore”? I jolly well hoped it would. This novel is a paranormal mystery set in the Wild West with Gothic undertones. Ophelia Wylde, spiritual medium, is misidentified and then arrested by local attorney Sutton. He thinks she is Kate Bender, a serial murderer and spiritualist con artist. Quick-witted Ophelia may be guilty of scamming people with her spiritualism claptrap but she’s no murderer. She is exposed as a fraud after ‘talking’ to the ghost of a girl who isn’t actually dead but then the dead really start talking to her. Bounty hunter Jack Calder intervenes and together they start to investigate a local crime. Continue reading

The House on Tradd Street is an interesting paranormal mystery that revolves a historical house in Charleston. Nevin Vanderhorst deeds this classic home to Melanie, a woman he has only met once, on the proviso that she resides there for one year. The only catch is that the house is replete with ghosts and secrets. There were a few plot quirks and poor characterisation that stopped me from really loving this one. Continue reading

Darcy Merriweather, Wishcrafter extraordinaire, is embroiled in yet another mystery in Enchanted Village. This time Darcy has been hired by Elodie Keaton to clean out the home of her packrat mother, Patrice. Darcy discovers Patrice’s body in the middle of all the mess and Elodie promptly hires her to find out why Patrice went missing and how she died. Continue reading
