This novel is simply delightful and I was suitably diverted. The novel opens with Lady Phillipa Marbury informing Cross, part owner of The Fallen Angel (a den of iniquity), that she requires ruination. She is due to marry the staid Lord Castleton and wants to know what to expect in the bedroom. Cross is naturally horrified that his business partner’s sister-in-law would approach him and does everything he can to dissuade her. Is this setup even remotely plausible? No. Is it highly entertaining? Yes! Continue reading

Adelaide Davies had only just returned to Whiskey Creek when someone kidnapped her and dumped her in the mine she was gang-raped in fifteen years ago. Fortunately Noah Rackham was riding his bike nearby and rescues her. He can’t understand why she is so unwilling to report the crime and why she recoils from him. Adelaide never reported the crime and can’t bear to admit to Noah, the guy she used to have a crush on at school, that his twin brother was one of the men who raped her. The fact that Cody died shortly after the incident, fuelled her guilt. Novak has given us quite an unusual romance that is handled very sensitively. Continue reading

This novel reads a little like a soap opera with all sorts of crazy stuff happening. That isn’t a criticism as I really enjoyed watching Lane mess around with the tropes – you have to be in the mood for a quirky romance otherwise the humour will fall flat. As her mother lay dying, she confessed that Faith Aldridge actually had an identical twin sister (Hope). Faith rocks up in Bramble, Texas looking for her but gets mistaken for Hope instead. Nothing Faith can say will convince people she isn’t Hope and the kiss she gets from sexy cowboy Slate Calhoun has her wanting to be her sister. A well-meaning but meddlesome town is determined to fix Faith up with Slate once and for all. Hope though is on her way back to town and her arrival threatens to crush this newfound romance. I’d previously only read Novak’s contemporary romances so I wasn’t expecting a novel that was so hard hitting. Virgil Skinner might have been sentenced for a crime he didn’t commit but he wasn’t exactly squeaky clean on the inside. Finally exonerated, he agreed to turn informer to protect his sister and her kids. He won’t grass on anyone from his former gang (The Crew) out of loyalty but he is willing to go undercover and snitch on another gang (Hell’s Fury) that is operating out of Pelican Bay prison. Surviving even a few hours in this maximum security prison is made even tougher when he meets Chief Deputy Warden Peyton Adams and the two start to fall for each other. Continue reading

You’d think being a dragonspeaker and mediator would be glamorous but Myrna Banks’ regular day usually involves dealing with copious amounts of vomit, irate clients and paperwork.  Her ex-boyfriend, Trian Chobardan, pops up wanting her help even though he stomped all over her heart two years ago when he stole classified documents. Myrna can’t resist the opportunity to be involved in something special rather than the usual disputes between dragons and cattle farmers.  If she could only resist Trian, she’d be doing well.
